SnowNet : Inuvik

Inuvik

In the fall of 2009, SnowNet has expanded to a new site, located 50 km north-northeast of Inuvik (NWT). A solid state SWE sensor has been placed in the research basin of Trail Velley Creek (TVC). The area of the basin is 63 km2 and its topography consits mainly gently rolling hills and some deeply incised river valleys with elevations ranging 50 to 150 m above sea level.

The SWE sensor was installed late October 2009 by our partners at the Environment Canada National Hydrology Research Centre. There are 3 permanent meterolological stations and two streamflow gauging stations.

The new SnowNet site in the TVC, a wooden base has been installed ready to receive the SWE sensor. A small tower is set up nearby to record air temp, the SWE sensor output, and wind speed.
